Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer

If you like fantasy, you would love Artemis Fowl because it takes
place in Dublin, Ireland and has to do with breaking the barrier
between faeries and humans. Instead of faeries being the average
old fashioned kind, faeries live underground after we won the
“Eternal War”. The LEP(lower elements police) actually are
hundreds of years ahead of us and have evolved into a high tech
civilization. Artemis Fowl captures an LEP officer named Holly
Short with help from his bodyguard, Butler. Then the LEP try to get
Holly back. Artemis’s intention is to not hurt Holly but to trade
her for gold. The LEP decides to kill Artemis in many ways. Read
to see if Artemis survives!

I recommend this book to solo readers from eight to eighty. This book is
about a battle between faeries and humans but no one dies or gets hurt.
Artemis Fowl is on audio books, hardback and paperback. The best
feature is you have a code to crack on the bottom that is related to the
code in the book. This is the first in a fantasy series and you should
read Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident next.

I owned a 1st Gen Kindle that I paid full price for when they first came out. Then I talked my husband into buying a Kindle 2 and he paid full price. Then I bought a Kindle 2 for my son and paid a little less (because of the first price decrease). Then I bought a Kindle 2 for myself. Unfortunately, it was shipped a day or 2 before the 30 days needed to be refunded $70 when amazon decided to compete with B&N. So I asked if I could have a $70 refund since I had spent over $1200 on Kindles for me (2 of them), my husband, and my son. I was told “NO”! I naturally feel disgruntled. I mean, come on. The books are so overpriced (some are more than hardcovers) and I have bought many books. At least send me a coupon for a best seller costing $12.99. I’d feel like a valued customer, at least. Anyway, my only problem was that one of my books from 1st Gen Kindle was my favorite: Virginia Woolf’s To The Lighthouse. When I got it out of the archives for my Kindle 2 it is now called The Character and I….by Frederick Jackson. When I click into it, though, it is Woolf’s To the Lighthouse and exactly where I left off reading it. I wrote to the techs and they politely told me what to do, but it is not working. Still, the Kindle is great but I will never buy another one from amazon since they have crummy customer service and really don’t care about customer retention. I might add that I not only buy kindle books, I seem to buy most of my stuff from amazon. Sorry, I’m usually not a complainer, but $1200 plus and unable to get a $70 refund because I was unlucky when I chose to buy the K2, does not make me feel loyal. Needless to say, I have not bought any books for my kindle, preferring to go to free sites. Eventually I’ll stop pouting, because I need my fix of best sellers, but hey….amazon will lose a lot of money and future loyalty from me and my family.
