Artemis Fowl is a criminal mastermind like no other. He has (by age 12)
gone through many thrilling criminal adventures and has yet to meet his
match in brains or technology. But when Artemis kidnaps a fairy he is in
for more than he thinks. The Fairies quickly send teams up to the surface to rescue their kidnaped friend. Has Artemis met his match?

Full of quick action, witty humor and excellent writing Colfer’s tale is a phenomenon of modern novels. Read it and you won’t be dissapointed.

Alone With Someone Connecting

We are always looking for movies that make a nice night out for the family, and “Sky High” fits the bill nicely. The plot is fun although pasted together from other movies: Will Stronghold is the son of a pair of superheroes: the Commander, who is super-strong, and his wife Jetstream, who can fly super-fast [shades of the Incredibles]. He is tapped to go to a super-hero school, Sky High, where a magical rite-of-passage sorts people into future heroes and future also-rans [shades of Harry Potter]. At school, he must suffer the snobbery of the high-school elite [shades of Mean Girls]. His head is temporarily turned by a beautiful meangirl, but eventually with the help of his true geek-and-nerd friend, he saves the world.

Although I’ve described it as a pastiche of other movies, “Sky High” is well done and clever. The “special skills” of the school’s students are used to good effect (skills that at first seem lame – like the magical ability to turn into a hamster, or to glow in the dark – eventually turn out to be VERY useful).

The teen actors all do a nice job, but the adult actors look antique, a testimony to botox and the arts of corsetry. Kurt Russell as Will’s dad the Commander is especially wooden (I think it’s the botox, myself), and looks swamped by his silly costume. Ditto Lynda Carter (formerly Wonder Women) as the school’s principal, whose youthful appearance seems dependent on spackle or some other plaster-like substance. Among the adults only Cloris Leachmann, in a very brief cameo as the school nurse, has a genuinely funny moment.

But the kids come off as genuinely heroic, so “Sky High” is a worthy addition to the Disney live-action pantheon.
Sky High Full Screen

I was always curious about this book. I have heard of it for as long as I can remember. I have seen many referencs made to it. And I know there was a relationship with this book tied to Mark David Chapman, the assasin of John Lennon.

What I don’t understand is what the big deal is about it. It is well written and very discriptive but ultimately seems pointless. It follows a few days in the life of a student expelled from his school and doesn’t really go anywhere or make any point. I am not a big reader of fiction so maybe I’m missing something here.

All I can say is if you have been one, like myself who has always been curious about “The Catcher and the Rye”, don’t waste your time.

It is an excellent investment to travel with your library.
Easy to use, easy to read and “audio-book” switch is a sweet surprise.

The only setback is that after every purchase, you have to start over your search from the beginning.

6 Pack Crescent SDMB7V

With so many ratings for this product already, I wont write alot. I just want to say my husband and I are in love with this portable mount! We had a older GPS that we tried to mount, but it was always in the way! So we tried to just lay it on the dash or between the seats (which of course didnt work)! It was terrible! For Fathers day we decided to shop for a new GPS and decided to go with Garmin (the best decision we ever made) and just happened across this product…I thought with all the fantastic reviews we couldn’t go wrong and boy was I right! We put it on a little open section where it shows the time and weather in the dash of our car and 3/4 of the bottom of the mount fits in, which at first worried me, but it has never budged a inch and it was a snap to put together! I totally recommend this Garmin portable mount!

I bought this pop up diffuser while taking a flash class. Not only was I impressed with the 3 diffuser colors (cool blue, white and warming orange) all included, several other class participants borrowed it for some special affects. I would recommend this to all.
