The Help by Kathryn Scockett is a wonderfully written book that will captivate many types of readers. It will make you feel as though you are sitting in the same room with the characters, watching the action and feeling a variety of emotions run through your body. This memorizing book takes place in Mississippi during the 1960’s and describes the hardships of black housekeepers’ lives. The headstrong main character, Skeeter, struggles to write a book in private about the taboo topic of the housekeepers’ lives and how they were treated. I highly recommend The Help to any type of reader that wants an intriguing, engaging, and entrancing read.

Easy to use and really sucks up the water. Problem is that the hose that feeds the water is crimped so not much water goes out unless I hit the surge button. If you suck too much without water the float will pop up and shut it off from the dry dirt that’s getting sucked up. SO I just use the surge a lot and it does the job.

A friend of mine who has had her Hoover Tempo recommended this vacuum to me. I was wary of cheap vacuums because my last one was horrible, so was willing to commit the money for quality. My friend has had hers for two years and it’s still ticking… What a great price for a powerful vacuum. It has several attachments, and a tube extender for working on the baseboard area. It isn’t fancy looking, but it does the job. I bought the bags and extra belts and am still tickled that I got an awesome vacuum, and all the extras for well under $100. Even if it does croak in a few years, it will have been worth it.

This is my second furminator. I have three cats and four dogs and it is a must. It gets so much hair off of our cats, it helps keeps the floors so much cleaner. I will buy other furminator products.

Bought one for Christmas. Love it! Don’t really have anything negative to say…except I wish the games weren’t so expensive.

The only thing the book has going for it is plot momentum, but even there, as other reviewers have noted, several plot developments strain credulity. The “dialect”, again as other reviewers have commented, is inconsistent and inaccurate. The characters are cardboard, each one animating a different stereotype. That said, the hapless white cracker and her husband are amusing. A better writer might have been able to develop the genuine issue at the heart of the book – the twisted and complicated relationships between white women and the black women who toil for them and their families.

Of course would like bigger space but for the price and what I wanted for I really can’t argued with that

It is the best fitness product I’ve ever purchased, and seeing that the price about the same as a good watch, no runner should be without it. The virtual runner function is great, and the ability to tailor the different displays to what ever information I want is priceless. The heart rate monitor works fine, the belt is wide and you don’t even notice you have it one. The software is a nice compromise between too many features and complexity that would blow away the subtards and not enough to provide the ability to see progress. The Google Earth mapping of your course is a nice feature also. I like the display which shows all work outs of a particular type and the totals. Good job.
I was surprised that I couldn’t find this in Sports Authority or Dicks, I could only find the very high end ones. But that’s O.K., I’m doing more and more of my shopping online and only need those stores for clothing.

Honestly, I expected to like this book. I love reading books that are adapted into films, so I figured I’d get a head start on this one — anything about a circus, I figured, would at least be interesting. I wasn’t disappointed. The protagonist is likeable, which is a must for me, the plot is well developed, and I like the continual transition from present-day Jacob to twenty-three year old Jacob. That said, I really wish the book were longer. I finished it in a single afternoon and I really thought the ending had been sewn up too quickly: So Rosie the elephant conveniently dispenses with August and our couple are left to live happily ever after…eh… I was expecting something more dramatic, more violent: a Jacob/August showdown, if you will. But the book seems to move too fast to accomodate a scene like this. Really, that’s my only complaint, though.
I snuck a peek at the other reviews before buying the book, and I was slightly put off about references to graphic sexual material and animal cruelty. And I have to say, I don’t get it. The animal cruelty is there, sure, but there isn’t much talk about blood and gore — it’s more about how Jacob responds to the cruelty, in my view. It doesn’t make it any less disturbing, but it’s not really horror movie material either. As for the sex stuff, I don’t get what the fuss is about. You can pick up almost any generic romance novel and read stuff that is far more graphic than what is found here. And I think it’s marketed as an adult novel, so no problems there…
In conclusion, it’s a good book. I’ll probably read it again and I think it’s worth the price I paid for it.
