The Help delighted and intrigued me from start to finish. Stockett creates multi-dimensional characters with rich lives, abilities, and languages. This book easily could have been comprised of caricatures from the hateful white League leader to the gangly but smart writer to the paid “help.” Instead, she recreates the desegregated south and all its inherent violence, mistrust and suspicion. She also weaves a lovely tale of women finding their voices and forging their own futures.
An enlightening, entertaining, supremely well-written novel.
