I picked up a copy of Twilight because, like so many people, I had heard all the hype, seen the movie previews, even have some friends who have read it and loved it, etc. Like others who have written a review here, I’m outside of the target demographic, but a good book should be readable by any age group, any gender, and any education level. This is not a good book. I got through chapter 3 and had to put it down. Everything is irritating about this novel.

One reason I wanted to read the book is that I’d heard people saying that it taught young women that it’s all right to be stalked, as long as the guy loves you. That women need to be protected because they can’t take care of themselves. I couldn’t argue the point if I had not read it for myself.

There are three important aspects in novels, one of which must be good. It’s rare that all three are good. None are good in Twilight. Characters – Bella is a whiny teenager who made a decision about her life and regrets every minute of it. When the explanation for her moving back to Forks is finally revealed, it’s meant to make her seem noble and willing to sacrifice her own happiness for someone else. The Cullens, typical vampire attitude, who are trying to hide what they are, but haven’t yet managed to learn to act normal. The other kids in school, so willing to accept, even adore Bella. And Bella, of course, is the daughter of the sheriff. Plot – Not much original here. Gloomy setting, weird kids who set themselves apart from everyone else, in comes Bella Swan (beautiful swan) to save the day. Writing – Irritating. Too many sentences the same length. Too many repetitions of thoughts and phrases. Although each is often small, there are too many point of view shifts.

Logic has no part. I’m not talking about logic in the supernatural, but in the real world. For instance, the truck that Charlie buys for Bella (which I’m certain would eventually have great significance since so much time was spent on h

This one kept appearing in my recommended reads but I kept putting it off. I am now delighted to have read it. Easy to read and powerful in its simplicity, I engaged with the characters…feeling intense hate for some and pain and compassion and hope for others. I both laughed and cried. Well done Kathryn, an excellent book, not entirely ficticious.

Ok, I bought this scale because of the good review, and the “step-on” idea, no calibrating, “very acccurate” and I’m so disappointed with it.

It seems like this scale use memory to make it “very accurate” instead of showing the real weight if the weight is not much different from the last weight, about .1-.3 kg

I weighed myself before lunch, and then again after lunch and I got the same weight I had before my lunch. So I lifted the scale up, put it down, let it calibrate and then weighed myself again and found that now, I gained .3kg from lunch.

So now, I have to lift the scale up, put it down, calibrate it, just to make sure that I will get the right number not the memory one.

I’m trying to loose weight and I weigh myself very often as I’m trying to observe what I’ve done to myself to gain/lose weight. This scale doesn’t help me much at all if I don’t calibrate it everytime I use.

I’m using the scale in Kg instead of Lbs as I’m having a weight loss competition with my family in Thailand. So .1-.3kg means I could win or lose for the week.

I used to have Tanita scale that needs to calibrate everytime you use, by pushing the On button and wait for few seconds. But comparing to this one, that I have to lift it up, down, calibrate it……I missed my old Tanita one.

Very happy to own this and it has brought me back to reading books again. The tablet is fairly light and works as easy as they say. I will buy more books and think the price could be a little lower though.

I was wondering around the book store looking for a new book to read, I picked this book up, read the jacket cover and decided it looked good, before I knew it I was done with the book. This book is one of the best I have ever read, it makes you cry, laugh, and pulls at your heart strings in all the right ways. I have passed this book on to 5 other people I know, my sisters, aunt, father, and best friend, all who have loved this book as much as me. Don’t miss out on this beautiful story!

Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer is about a 12 year old boy who is a genius but the sad thing is, he is also a criminal. One day he and his butler go to a forest and find a drunken fairy. Then they take this fairy book from it and translate it to English and then they figure out there is some sort of fairy Gold.

This books theme is that you should never give up, never stop trying, and always keep your head up. For example, this fairy says Artemis can’t do a certain task, but he still believes he can do it.

I like this book because it always makes me wonder what’s going to happen in the next chapter. I think it would make you have the same feeling. So maybe you should read this book.

I read this first when I was 17 and was assigned it in high school, and again just now when I am 53. This truly is a great book. But it should not be assigned to kids to read in high school. The assumption is that because it is about a teenager they will somehow empathize with Holden Caufield, and so be introduced to great literature. But I don’t think that kids that age have the level of self-awareness necessary to appreciate what Holden is going through. It’s the kind of thing you have to look back on to get. Certainly that is the experience of Holden himself. He has no appreciation of the events that are transforming him and only a dim understanding that he might be receiving useful advice along the way. So I expect it is the same with many of the kids who are forced to read this in high school. Wait until you are well past the experience, and I think you will appreciate this book a lot more.
